BPP: Mount Rubidoux

At the front gate

One of my most favorite memories from last summer is climbing Mount Rubidoux.   It was on my summer wish
list last year. The view from the top is amazing. I can see my favorite park from up there. They let off Independence Day fireworks from there each year. Last year the hillside lit up with small fires. We could still see the damage when we went walking up.

Climbing up is like an adventure. There is even a fairy bridge at the top, with a
tower.

It is not really a fairy bridge, but I like to believe the tower is a magic gateway and that is why they keep it locked. I climbed to the top twice last summer and tried to climb all the way a few more times until our car died and we couldn't drive there anymore. My dad walks miles there every week. I wish I could walk that far already.

I made two posts about Mount Rubidoux but I would have made a hundred if I could.

BPP: Adventures in Geography

My favorite part about blogging is knowing that people all over the world are reading my posts. It is really funny what posts they read too. Every day me and Mom sit at the computer and look at the maps and see where people who read my blog live. Sometimes we can even figure out what posts they are reading. Like lots people in the Philippines read my First in Math posts a lot. My bubble painting photos and posts get a lot views by people who live in The UK. One of my popular ever posts was the one I wrote on Ireland. People from all over the world read that one but most of the page views came from Russia.

It was really neat when we read about Tunisia in social studies and then that same week someone from Tunisia read my blog. Every time I see a new country that clicked in I add it to my big map. So far I have seen more than 70 countries on 6 different continents.

Each week I mark where people visit from on a map and I try to learn something about those cities and countries. Now, I write about it in my Saturday Shout Outs. I have learned lots of really terrific things. Like in Ireland the government has to declare a town a city, it isn't based on population. There are some beautiful water fall in Brazil. I learned that France is famous for its wine, cooking and mimes. My favorite was Qatar. It has the best looking buildings, all old and modern at the same time.

My biggest wish is to get views from Antarctica. Then I would have all seven continents.

Here are some of my Adventures in Geography posts from the last twelve months.

Joy to the World: Austria

Making School Fun: France

Adventures in Geography: Qatar

Adventures in Geography: Ireland

Fun in any language is still "Fun"

Remember Why We Celebrate Memorial Day

Memorial Day is sad but special day where we remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives in war to give us our freedom.  I am really grateful that I don't have to worry about my daddy  being at war. But there are lots of kids my age who do have to worry about their parents. Not all of them will come home. I think it is good that we all take time to remember those people. What they do is important for us all even if we don't think there should ever be a war.

Saturday Shout Out 5/26

Hello Everyone,
I hope you have had a good week. It been good here. I finally got to switch my blog back to the Summer of Fun. Mom and her friends have finding online links, for all the things I want to do this summer, for weeks. We finally have the full activity list up Summer 2012 "I know what we're going to do today!". I can't wait to try some of the projects.

Usually I try to talk about the first cities to click into my blog here. This week something really awesome happened. I always get cities that click in every week but this week I had cities that showed up more than once. I am really happy to get more viewers. I thought I would look at those cities this week especially since they are all over the US.

The Dalles, OR, clicked in the most. Almost everyday.  I would be interested just for the city's name. According to their website, it is located on the Columbia River and it used to be known as the town at the end of the Oregon Trail. That is a great thing to have in your history. It used to be Dalles City. I didn't see how it came to be called The Dalles.

Loves Park, IL http://www.loves-park.il.us/index.html also clicked in almost every day. It also has a very cool name. It was named after Malcom Love and it really started out as a park, Love's Park. Their website history page has the best old town photos

Fort Worth TX  showed up quite few times last week and it has a great website. http://fortworthtexas.gov/  I really liked reading in the city news section about the Fort Worth Cats, minor league baseball team. They sound really cool.

The final repeat city was Daphne AL.  Another really neat name. I think Daphne's website http://www.daphneal.com/  was the best. It really looked a place I would like to visit or even live.

Shout Out to all these great cities in Europe and  North America!

Bon Jour French Speakers!
I had some more fun with photo and video editing.
I think I am getting better but I still have a long way to go.

I used Google Earth to find the cities and http://imtranslator.net to get the French translation. All mistakes are mine.

BPP: Making School Fun

I changed the title of my blog when school started so it would be about school. I hate school. I would rather do anything but school work but I do like Connections Academy better than my old school. Here I can learn art and Chinese and robotics. My teachers are pretty and smart and they help me a lot. They aren't mean when I don't get it.

It was hard to blog during school because it was a lot of work but I still did some fun school posts. My mom even wrote a post and it was really popular. My school posts got lots of views. More than almost all the others. My favorites are the PE video and the Virtual field trips. I really liked talking to the NASA engineer. I don't have a picture of my teacher from this year though. :(

I still have three or four more school posts planned before summer really gets going.

BPP: Science Experiments

One of the most fun things on my blog is doing science experiments. Some of the best ideas we have had we got from Education.com. Last Fall I won their Challenge and I got a $100 gift card. I got a Udraw with that money. It was very cool to win.

 Education.com Challenge
 I won!

I have a bunch of new experiments lined up for this summer but me and my family have done a bunch of fun ones all ready.

Science Is Fun! (rainstorm on a spoon)

Balloon Blast Off

Magic Soap!

Super Science! (light bending)

Annular Eclipse (pinhole viewer)

Water Bottle Sub

What I like best is making videos. Here are some of the funnest.

Balloon Powered Car

 Like Molecules

We even added a couple of videos I made before I started blogging

My super favorite is when we played a joke on my Granny. She is super cool and doesn't mind when I put her on my blog. In this video we were showing that air takes up space. We didn't tell her that my bottle had holes in it, so it seemed like she was doing something wrong.

I can't wait to show off what we have planned this summer

BPP: Fairmount Park

We have this great park where I live. It over 100 years old. Some famous park landscapers made it way back then. My mom and her family used to go there when she was young. It has big trees, lakes and lots of ducks.

It is our favorite place to go all year long and it is always full of people. In the summer they have concerts there and there are street sellers selling ice cream and toys.

There is a boat house where you can rent paddle boats, bicycles and buy iced water.

There is a little waterfall too. It even has a rose garden where people like to take pictures. I have seen lots of weddings there.

They added a water pad to the new
play area and we spent a lot of time there last summer. That is the best part.

I have blogged about Fairmount Park a few times over the last year.

BPP: Wacky Holidays

Did you know that there are holidays every day of the year. My mom posts about them to her friends and sometimes on my blog I get to post about them too. Over the last year I have posted about a bunch of fun holidays.

Bad Poetry Day!              International Thank You Day

My favorite was Name Yourself Day. I couldn't find another name that was just right for me so I kept my name. It was fun trying.

There are a couple of fun websites to get ideas for every day holidays

Annular Eclipse

Tonight we got to see a partial annular eclipse. It would have neat to be able to see the best of it. Mom wouldn't let me look right at it it but Dad found a way we could see it with the supplies we had on hand. We also took some shots with our video camera. The color outside was pretty but it looked the sun was broken. Our video looks like it has an effect on it. We had a great time watching it. It's cool that my dad knows all this stuff to explain it.

Here are a couple of websites I found that talk about the eclipse. They both have great pictures.

Saturday Shout out May 19

A big hello goes out to my cousin Cheree. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. I love you!

Hello to everyone this week. I hope it was good for you. I have fallen behind in one of my classes at school so I have been trying to catch up this week. I have also been planning a couple of new pages for the blog this summer.

This week the first international place to visit my blog was Paraná, Brazil. The language spoken most in Brazil is Portuguese. I had a little fun with this week's Shout Out video. I found some fun tools on my computer's camera.

Portuguese translation via http://imtranslator.net/translate-and-speak/#window

At first I thought Paraná was a town but really it is one of Brazil's 26 states. We found a couple of websites for there and there are some amazing water falls there. I would really like to visit someday. Here is one website I found with a really good slide show http://www.tripadvisor.com/Tourism-g303435-State_of_Parana-Vacations.html

Hello Paraná, Brazil!

I am really starting to love Ontario, Canada. It has some really beautiful places. This week Hellos go out to Waterloo, Coquitlam and Burlington.

A great big SHOUT OUT goes to Adelaide, Australia

The first American town to visit this week was WayneTownship,  NJ.  They really take history seriously there but I take the public pool seriously. It would really be worth a visit. Their website is great. http://www.waynetownship.com/index.html   Hello Wayne Township NJ!

Making School Fun: Robotics Club

Today we had our last robotics club meeting until next school year. There was a big show of all the robots people have been working on this year. Some were sketches and there were legos robotics sets too. There were even a couple of real robots and we saw some demonstrations of they worked. There are some real smart kids at my school.

I am not ready to build a robot yet, but I like to design them. Here is my project.

It is a robot that dissolves blood clots and repairs major artery walls. It can also repair the spinal cord and large nerves.

Lian: Super Hero Designer

You can be one too!

Today I played at Marvel's Create Your Own Super Hero game.

On this page you can design your own super heroes. You can choose male or female. You can choose bodies, clothes and weapons.

I made two super heroes. The first is Bust. His super power is super human strength. He used to be a scientist, Dr. Michael Madison,  working on a shrink ray. One night he was too sleepy to pay attention to his work and his machine over loaded and he became Bust.

His girlfriend is Jessica Alterra. Her power is the ability to bend and control electromagnetic waves. She was born with her power. She met Bust when he helped her fight against evil giant robots attacking the City.

It is super fun to make new characters. If you want to do it you can visit http://marvel.com/games/play/31/create_your_own_superhero

Testing :(

Tomorrow I have to do State Testing. I see all the schools in my area are testing this week too.

The tests are cool because it is a challenge and I get to be in a real class with all my classmates. It is like a field trip.

It sucks because the test is scary. It is all reading and I am not good at reading. I took my school post tests and I got good grades. Mom says these tests are just like that. We have been practicing all semester.

I. Really. Hate. Taking. Tests!

Marvel -ous

or...  Lian's trip to the movies.

Yesterday I got to see The Avengers. It was an incredible movie. In this movie S.H.I.E.L.D. is making an experiment on a possible unlimited power source but it is actually a door to another universe where Loki, Thor's brother and movie bad guy, is living.  He comes to earth and steals the power source and S.H.I.E.L.D. brings the super heroes to find it and protect the earth from his armies. The Avengers team includes Hawk Eye, Black Widow, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America. Each person brings something special to the team but they don't always get along with each other. The beauty of it is, they don't have to, to do their jobs.

The graphics were terrific. We saw it in 3D and it made scenes like the Mark 7 Iron Man suit wrapping itself around Tony, as he was falling, really awesome! The battle scenes were intense, like a roller coaster. The battle took place all over New York City and showed all the heroes using their special powers. I really liked how the Helicarrier looked. It was different, bigger and way better than I always thought it would be. The Hulk was just awesome!

Iron Man/Tony Stark is my favorite super hero but I really liked all the heroes in this movie. I think that if you like action movies you will like this movie. If you are a Marvel freak you will love this movie.

The trailers are so much better after seeing the movie.
