Magic Soap!

We did an experiment with red pepper flakes that was so cool. We made a bar of soap magically move them through water. You need a dish with water, red pepper flakes and a bar of soap.

Float the flakes in the water. They stay on top because water molecules stick together and creates a skin of water. Put the bar of soap into the middle of the dish and the red pepper floats away like they can't get away fast enough. It happens really fast. It's because the soap molecules bond with the water making the tension not so much. So the pepper floats to where it can stay up.

In science for school we did this with black pepper and dish soap. It really looks like the soap can magically make the pepper move.

I am going to add a video to the Science is Fun page. Watch for it.

Sailboats!

I love to go to the lake in the park. I really want to rent a boat and go out to the bird island. We can't go on it but there are lots of neat birds over there. Today we watched people in small sailboats sailing and fishing in the lake. They were so pretty!

The Knight at Dawn!

This is just as good as the first book in the Magic Tree House books. Knights are cool. I posted a video on my Reading List page.

The Library!

I am not very good at reading but I love going to the library. Books are still wonderful even if they are hard to read. We have a new library in town. It has a really great children's room with a puppet tree and a carpet area with a bench to read away from every one else. It also neat tech info on the water cycle. There is a video and a wall painted with the information. I have had my own library since I could write my name. My favorite books to get are tech or science books. Like books about space or rocks. I like to books to read with mom too. She reads to me every day. She always gets lots of really thick books without any pictures when she wants to read and she reads them really fast. She says some day I will too. Her brother couldn't read until he was in third grade, like me, and now he loves to read really thick books.

Repair Crew

This week the city fixed a water line in front of our house. They had a jack hammer and a bulldozer and big trucks. They dug a really big hole in our driveway and they turned off our water all night. It was so cool to see all the equipment out there. The jack hammer is really loud and the bulldozer looks so neat when it digs.

Swimming, It's back!

They are filling our pool. I guess they fixed it. We have to wait for the pool service to say it's okay to go back in but I am SO excited. I can't wait to go swimming again.

Our Favorite Place to Visit!

Fairmount Park

Mom started going there when she was a little older than me. We love it. It has three lakes and lots of ducks and a pretty rose garden and the playgrounds are new and it has a splash pad. Sometimes my granny meets us there and we have lunch. It has lots of bridges too. I want to go fishing but we don't have poles. I want to go in the boats too. They look so fun. I meet lots of new friends every time I go there and I love to feed the ducks. There are always people selling food or ice cream or toys there too.

The ducks don't care where they go. If they want to be in the street we have to wait for them

Lots of places to have fun
I caught a picture of mom!

There is a big fishing bridge

With benches to sit on

There are lots of trees right out in the middle of the lake.

I love the waterfall

The one on the right is Old Man. Lots of the birds have names and some of them really know us

The roses are so pretty. There is a fountain and a place to get married there too.

Bunny Time!

Braveheart saw us across the park and came out into the field toward us. I have never seen any of the rabbits on that side of the track. I have found droppings so I know they go there. Just not when the park is full of people. A girl with a camera was there too and she chased him into the tunnel. We laid out the carrot and sat back. He came back a little later and brought two smaller bunnies with him. He is so brave, he comes right up almost to where we could touch him. I want to but mom still says not to. He likes to eat the little flowers in the grass better than the carrot. We took lots of video today even though we forgot the video camera

Clowning Around!

Last weekend mom and me saw a clown, Chiquilin  Chirolito, at the park making balloon animals. That is so neat. He let us take his picture and watch him work. I would love to learn how to do that.

CIimb Every Mountain!

I did it! I finally climbed to the top of Mount Rubidoux. It been my summer dream. Dad and I hiked to the top. It's a three mile trail. We could see the burned patches from the firework show fires and there are coyotes up there. I even touched the cross and walked on the friendship bridge. You can see the whole city from up there and I saw the our park but I couldn't see our house.

Finished A New Book

Mom and I finished 'Amelia Bedelia, Rocket Scientist?'. It was very fun. She misunderstands all kinds of things and the scientist is really bald but he wears fake hair. Our next book is the magic treehouse Dinosaurs Before Dark. I can't wait.
