Summers Greatest Hits: Rain

Everyone on the east coast got rained on by hurricane Irene. It was a big deal. Rain was a big deal for me this summer too. At the end of July we had a rain storm. It hardly rains here. I love the sound rain makes when it falls. This storm had lots of thunder too. It set off the car alarms. It woke me up really early. It was one of my favorite days.

Mount Vesuvius Day

Today is a day to remember the eruptions of Mount Vesuvius in Italy. Close to 7000 people were killed when it erupted in 79AD and again in 1631.It is sad that people died, but volcanoes are so neat. My school has neat on line resources about volcanoes but my favorite thing is my baking soda volcano. We use equal parts baking soda and vinegar. To get the red color we add a few drops of food color.

Ride The Wind Day

My favorite online science blogger talked about a kite that was big enough to lift her students off the ground. I thought it was a funny story. Then one day we were at the park and I watched a kite drag a man across the field. I think he knew it would drag him because he wore knee pads. It was cool to watch it fly. I love when I learn stuff and then get to see it work. August 23 is Ride The Wind Day I really want to try it.

Greatest Hits

Summer is coming to an end. I am going to keep on blogging through the school year but I want to show my favorite summer fun times.

I Cooked Dinner!

Last night I made mini pizzas for dinner. It was so great that I could do it myself. They tasted awesome! Mine were cheese and dad wanted onion on his.  I love to cook. I learned to make eggs this week and mashed potatoes from a box. Mom lets me help make corn bread too.

Mt Rubidoux Again

We got to go back to Mt Rubidoux Park this morning. We had to get up really early. I have so much fun up there. The view is amazing. The cactus are growing fruit. They are a really pretty purple color. There was an air show some where close and the planes flew over head. Some of them were awesome!

Ice Boats!

We made boats out of ice today. They turned over in the water and sails were soggy. They melted really fast in the warm pool water but it was so much fun.

For this project

You need: a plastic cup, bendable straw, tape, paper, scissors, hole punch

  • First bend your straw and tape the short end to the bottom of your cup. ( trim the straw if needed to make it fit )
  • Fill the cup 1/3 with water and let it freeze
  • After it has frozen, run water on the outside of the cup to loosen the ice.
  • Cut a sail from construction paper and use a hole punch to make two holes for the straw. (we recycled junk mail)

Bad Poetry Day!

August 18th is National Bad Poetry Day. It was made so grown up people could write bad poems and send them to their high school english teachers. I think that is silly but I wrote a bad poem anyway.

Mom is nice

Dad has lots of dice

Mom cooks me food

Dad sometimes calls me dude

I love Connections Academy!

Since we got our pool back I have been so busy having fun I keep forgetting to write about it. I will soon though. We got our submarine to work and we made a pop rocket and I am building another rocket car. And guess what! My school books came today. I got a real text book for math like big kids get not like the ones you tear out and write in like little kids have. They also sent me a whole art kit in a case and a spiral sketchbook and markers. Plus I got new goggles for science and there are three story books for English not just two. One is about Ben Franklin. I can't wait to start third grade. Well, I can wait because I am still on summer vacation but it is going to be so awesome!!!
